Exclusive Features of the Dr Three-Point Hitch Chipper

Self-Feeding Self-Feeding

90% of the material will chip on its own

With a sharp chipper knife all DR Rapid-Feed Chippers will self-feed 90% of the material you put in it, instead of you having to force-feed the material. This enables you to process limbs up to 5-1/2'' thick 2-3 times faster, and with far less effort, than with any other homeowner chipper.

Massive Solid-Steel Flywheel Massive Solid-Steel Flywheel

Spins with tremendous inertia for smooth chipping

Even the biggest hardwood branches won't bog down a DR Rapid-Feed Chipper. The flywheel is cut from heavy steel (3/4" thick) and weighs up to 76.5 pounds. The massive size of this flywheel provides the inertia necessary for the chipper knife to power through knotty, hardwood branches at an incredible 40 bites per second.

Over-Sized Hopper Over-Sized Hopper

Means less trimming of side branches

Oversized hoppers (up to 25" x 33") will accept whole armfuls of small branches at once, or even whole trees and saplings -- with little or no trimming of side branches. This saves tremendously on the time you spend pruning and preparing materials for chipping.

Super-Duty Cogged Drive Belt Super-Duty Cogged Drive Belt

Lasts longer, transfers full power without slipping

Our Pro and Commercial models feature a cogged drive belt to prevent slipping, for full power transfer from the engine to the flywheel. The belt is also designed to stay cool, even as it travels 3,800 ft/minute. That translates into fewer belt changes over the life of your machine.

Powerful Engines Powerful Engines

More power means you'll work faster

Big engines from Briggs & Stratton give you 2-3 times the power of department store chippers.

Commercial-Grade Clutch.jpg Commercial-Grade Clutch

For smoother starts, longer engine life

The commercial-grade centrifugal clutch used on our chippers is similar to those used in well drilling. There is no load on the engine until it reaches 1,600 rpm. If you do manage to find a branch tough enough to slow the engine to 1,600 rpm, the clutch will automatically disengage the engine until it's back up to speed.

Heavy-Duty Steel Frame Heavy-Duty Steel Frame

Made to last, made to move

Many wood chippers look like they're built to sit in one place. All DR Rapid-Feed Chippers are made to be on the move, so you can get your chipper wherever you need to be on your property. We use rugged, welded-steel frames designed to withstand transport over punishing terrain year after year.

PRO-SPEC Chipper Knife PRO-SPEC™ Chipper Knife

Hardened steel knife takes 40 bites per second

Unlike most "bargain" chipper knives that are made out of stamped steel, our chipper knives are made of high-carbon/high-chromium hardened D2 steel for excellent edge-holding ability.

Over 50 knife designs were created to find the ideal size, shape, and configuration. The knife is oriented with a “relief” machined into the flywheel so the leading edge of the knife is closer to material being processed than the trailing edge. The knife tip travels at 98-143 mph, depending on the model. This provides faster, cleaner chipping, and helps the knife draw the material into the chipping chamber.

AIR-INJECTION Venting AIR-INJECTION™ Venting

Powerful air channel carries chips, prevents clogging

One of the reasons small, underpowered chippers clog so easily is they can't eject chipped material fast enough. DR Rapid-Feed Chippers feature a venting system that draws air into the chipping chamber and expels it out the exhaust port. This powerful airflow helps to carry woodchips and practically blast them out the discharge chute. In over 300 hours of product testing, we never once had a clog on any of our DR Rapid-Feed Chippers.
